Description

The infamous IMDT (Illegal Migrants Determination by Tribunals) Act 1983 is at core an issue of massive and unabated infiltration in North-East in general and Assam in particular. The act introduced by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in her tenure had serious implications affecting our national interest. This act has given protection to those staying illegally in Assam.Though the apex court has scrapped this act efforts are being made to bring it through the backdoor. The whole issue should be seen from the point of security and territorial integrity of India. Nitin Gokhale and Samudragupta Kashyap, two journalist from Assam studied this act and traced its implications in the region. They completed the monograph under the Vastav Darshan fellowship of the Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini. This is the monograph by two journalists.
